All about the MCBA award reading program

MCBA

Salem State College will once again coordinate the Massachusetts Children’s Book Award Program. Middle school students across the state, read at least 10 books from a Master List of 25 titles and vote for their favorite.

Criteria for books on the Master List include literary quality, variety of genres, representation of diverse cultural groups, and reader appeal.  Books published within a five-year period before the award year, are eligible. The author of the winning book receives a plaque to commemorate the award. The award is sponsored by Salem State College.

Here at Wilson Middle School, interested students will read as many titles as they would like (a minimum of 10 will be required) We will hold a breakfast in February for all students who have read the books.  At this time we will vote for our favorite title and send our vote on to Salem State College.  All participants will receive prizes for their participation. The person who reads the most titles will be recognized with a special prize.  At this breakfast we will also discuss our suggestions for next years titles.  Students will complete a review of each book they read.

Students can register in the library!
